Invoking the Guru’s Grace: Guru Purnima Celebrations at Nerul Ashram


It was a day dedicated to the veneration of the Guru, as hundreds gathered at the Nerul Ashram on Saturday, 12th July 2014 to celebrate Guru Purnima. The day-long program commenced at 9.00 a.m. with the Guru Paduka Puja, followed by a community prayer for peace and prosperity, which included the Mahaganapati Homam and the Navagraha Shanti Homam. On conclusion of the Puja, lunch was served to everyone present.

A group of around 150 tribal locals from Ransai, the village adopted by the Ashram under the AmritaSeRVe initiative, enthusiastically participated in the proceedings. They enthralled one and all with an impromptu dance, infused with energy and vigour. Rice and clothes were distributed among them.The dignitaries who graced the occasion included Additional Commissioner of Police, Thane, Shri Dnyaneshwar Phadtare, renowned film director, Ms. Kalpana  Lajmi, and senior architect and founder of Barve Associates,  Shri S.R.Barve.

A cultural program by children extolling the glories of Lord Krishna through a musical play was a colourful culmination of the event. Devotees dispersed after the Maha Arati at 7.00 p.m.
