Making a Resolve to Contemplate: Sadhana Shibiram at Nerul Ashram

A day-long spiritual camp (Sadhana Shibiram) was organized and conducted at the Nerul Ashram on Sunday, November 25. A session of guided meditation as instructed by Br. Avyayamrita Chaitanya set the tone for a contemplative flavor to the day’s proceedings. The meditation session was followed by a Mahamrityunjaya Homam together with a Vilakku Puja, in which a good number of devotees participated. Apart from the Ashtothram, the Shiva Ashtothram was chanted. The chanting of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra enhanced the serenity of the morning hours. At the conclusion of the Puja, offerings of sesame seeds (til) were made to the sacrificial fire.

There was an enlightening Satsang by Swami Vidyamritananda Puri. In his address, Swamiji dealt with the topic of the choices humans have in life- what they like and what is in their best interest. He added that the mind should be trained to become introspective, and one must try to realize the infinite potential that lies hidden within. He urged the younger generation to be in touch with our rich tradition and culture. Swamiji said that every day, at least half an hour should be devoted to reading our ancient scriptures and contemplating on them. Swamiji answered a volley of questions pertaining to spiritual progress, coping with the stress of the corporate world, and the significance of religious pilgrimages.

The Satsang was followed by the serving of Mahaprasad to all devotees assembled.

Children of various age groups thronged the hall, along with their parents to participate in the Sanskruti Puja, that commenced at about 3.30 pm. Children washing the feet of their parents, garlanding them, waving incense sticks and camphor in front of them and feeding them sweets, and parents reciprocating tenderly by kissing them was an endearing scene. Under the guidance of Br. Avyayamrita Chaitanya, the holy chants, ‘Aum Sri Matre Namaha’ and ‘Aum Pitrubhyo Namaha’ were repeated by the children 18 times in honour of their parents. The Puja was completed with the circumambulation (Pradakshina) to the Sadguru (Amma).

The Shibiram concluded on a note of contentment and joy with a Bhajan session and the Maha Arati.
